For Yuliya and Olga/Za Juliju i Olgu

Russia's aggression against Ukraine and thus the war in Europe is the main topic of all news and our talks. As a blog writer, I neither can nor want to avoid writing about this topic that preoccupies us all. Yet my first three attempts to write on this subject seemed unsuccessful to me after only a few paragraphs. Writing an article that is informative and retells the news seems wrong to me because first I don’t have enough information to tell you something new or to write something you don’t already know. I am happy that both my countries Croatia and the United Kingdom explicitly support Ukraine and help it through political channels and sanctions, but also by concretely sending weapons for defence and humanitarian aid. Both Croatian and English volunteers are even going to Ukraine to defend Ukraine alongside Ukrainian soldiers.

Most European countries collectively condemn Russian aggression and the decisions of the Russian president. Even Italy, the country that is the most economically connected European country with pre-war Russia, because as much as 40% of its gas comes from Russia, also supports Ukraine. The country that has once again embarrassed itself by siding with Russia and gave it its support is Serbia. The shame of Milosevic's Serbia from 30 years ago has not yet been forgotten, and Serbia is once again giving us reasons for criticism.

My concern about Ukraine also has very personal connotations because one of my closest friends for the past 17 years is Yuliya from Ukraine. My friend lives in Cambridge, but her mom as well as the rest of her extended family and friends are still in Kharkiv. I try to help my friend by talking to her every day. My Yuliya is a strong woman, as is her mother Olga who is a head of a group in academic institute in Kharkiv. Olga's city is being destroyed in front of her eyes and the horrors that she passes are indescribable. My thoughts are with my friends Olga and Yuliya. I believe that the world will find a way to stop this aggression and I hope that not too much time will pass until then.

With love,

Kristina

P. S. Due to technical difficulties related to my blog this article was published with a few days delay. To get all my posts back I had to correct the headlines and republish everything. I lost all your comments during this process. I hope the Wix support team manages to bring them back.

In the meantime, my friend Yuliya's mother Olga left Kharkiv, but unfortunately, she is still deep in Ukraine now.

Većina evropsih zemalja složno osuđuje Rusku agresiju i odluke ruskog predsjednika.
