Eurovision nostalgia/Eurovizijska nostalgija

In my last article, I wrote about Croatia's selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This surprising song reflects the sick and war-torn Europe. The war in Ukraine leaves no one indifferent. The suffering of people and the destruction of a country, so close to all of us, affects all spheres of society, including music.

I closed my eyes for a moment and returned to the 80s, a time before these recent wars in Europe. I remembered the time when we were happy and cheerful watching Eurovision. When I was a child, my parents let me and my brother watch the all-night Eurovision contest together, including the voting, which usually ended late at night. Those family Eurovision viewings remained in me as warm memories of my family, of my parents who are no longer here, and of a completely different time. One Croatian song that represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision in 1986 is stuck in my memory. The wonderful singer Doris Dragović, who was liked by both my dad and my brother, sang the romantic song "My desire". Here I have a link to the official video that presented this song to Eurovision, as well as the lyrics of the song. I hope that you will be happy to remember the time in Europe when wars were just some "stories from the past".

My desire

I loved you and I still love you

I honestly give everything

This night is black without you

If there is luck you'll be back

My punishment, my sin

Quiet, quiet, tear, don't give up

My desire, my sadness

I'm still yours, you're still mine (You're still mine)

Everything, everything hurts me because of you

My desire, my sadness

If there is luck, you'll come back

My punishment, my sin

Quiet, quiet, tear don't give up

My desire, my sadness

I'm still yours, you're still mine (You're still mine)

Everything, everything hurts me because of you

My desire, my sadness

Everything, everything hurts me because of you

My desire, my sadness

Eurovizijska nostalgija

U prošlom članku sam pisala o hrvatskom izboru za pjesmu Evrovizije 2023. Ta iznenađujuća pjesma odražava bolesnu i ratom načetu Evropu.
