Covid and I (and Novak)/Covid i ja (i Novak)

Updated: Mar 7, 2022

Today is my 7th day of self-isolation because, quite expectedly, I got symptoms of Covid infection on New Year's Day. The first few days LFT showed negative results, while my family members showed positive, for the same symptoms. I am writing this to warn friends to pay attention to symptoms and common sense without blindly believing in tests. The PCR test, which I did a few days ago and which was of course positive, is very sensitive, but even there in exceptional cases it can turn out a false negative. We had all the symptoms of the omicron infection: a mild temperature of 37.5 oC highest, dry cough, blocked nose and mild body aches and fatigue. All this together in a very mild form, which is not surprising considering that all three of us were vaccinated three times.

Since we spend our days at home, and the disease is not devastating, more a mild discomfort, we have time to cook, read, write, and watch TV. I have once again entered the mode of listening to and watching the news every day, several times, so I did not miss the saga about Novak Djokovic and his efforts to participate in the tournament in Australia despite being unvaccinated. Novak did everything, literally everything that was possible, to play the law in Australia in the typical Balkan style and find himself in the desired tournament. For people who may not be familiar, Novak is a well-known and very loud anti-vaxer since the early days. But he somehow managed to find some two anonymous medical bodies that gave him a medical exemption that he could not be vaccinated. Now, despite the great interest of all world media and people around the world, it has not yet been leaked what are the medical reasons that prevent Novak from getting vaccinated.

But we have heard that Novak's mother accuses the Australian government of using Novak as a scapegoat. And now I wonder why Australia needs this kind of nonsense in the presence of all the world's media. We also heard that Novak's wife calls for love and forgiveness. It is not clear to me of whom she wants our love and forgiveness. For her husband, despite the serious limitation in knowledge and understanding which sets an extremely bad example to the people in the poorly vaccinated Serbia, who seems to be among the worst in Europe. With people like Novak, is that surprising? The Serbian government also announced that the whole of Serbia was behind Novak in this Australian crisis.

I am familiar with this mental structure, in the end I myself come from a region where there are people who believe themselves untouchable.

However, on this occasion, I pay tribute to the Australian Government for its consistency. Thanks to them for showing the world that there are no untouchables in Australia.

I'm sorry that one extremely talented, world number 1 in tennis has such serious limits in his understanding of this pandemic, but that he is also proud of them.

Covid i ja (i Novak)
